Akkey Black is a human-rabbit-nix mixed breed. She was the second in command with General Frosti under King Haddock's rule until she lost her memories saving the Chief Strategist Vox from Hel. She became a vessel for the fallen valkyrie Svipul, who forced Stonegit to kill the King, and participated in the battle against Walpurgisnacht and the war of Ragnarok.

Appearance[]

Akkey is a short, seemingly frail human-rabbit-nix mixed breed. Her father's nix blood was strong and passed down the white hair they are born with (that slowly changes to black at around the age of 35) and the power to control water. She has very fair skin, slanted green eyes, white floppy rabbit ears, and claw-like nails, which she keeps well manicured. She likes her hair very long and tied in various styles throughout her life.

Her regular look consists of a short black and purple dress, grey tights, black thigh high boots, a full length glove on one arm and bandages on the other, and several armour pieces; including a light breast plate and a gauntlet on her right arm. Her sword rests on her right hip, the Wilderwest emblem engraved on the pommel, straps tied on various placed on the sheath. On the belt on her lower back is a small pouch to store water, and her daggers strapped on her upper right arm. Her hair is tied up with a purple ribbon.

After losing her memories, she is forced to cut and dye her hair black, and remove her rabbit ears to prevent the Wild West humans from harming her as a half breed. She wears a brown undershirt, black long sleeved jacket, thick forearm gauntlets, black trousers, basic brown boots, and a thick dark cloak. She keeps her sword and daggers. Her face now has two scars: one on her forehead that she received from her first trip to Purgatory, and another on her right cheek, given to her by the bodyguard Stonegit Brotchurn Elmiss.

Her hair grows longer during her coma after Haddock's death, growing out her white roots and hair dye. When she wakes, she dons her regular clothes, but keeps her hair down more often. It is during this time that she receives two new major scars: down her back from her right shoulder to her left hip from the Walpurgisnacht attack, and a big stabbed scar on her right abdomen, given to her by the assassin Satine Sadow.

After moving to Yrus with the Lindholm family, she dons the official Yrus colours. She wears a green, long sleeved top, embroidered with the Yrus symbol, brown pants held up by a belt, and tall dark boots. She carries her weapons less during this time, and rarely wears any additional armour. Her hair is long and loose down her back to below her hips, although at one point she chops it short after a serious fight with Blunt Donz. She lets it grow again afterwards, however.

After Frigga steals Eir from Hunter many years later, she wears a light, leather armour, and leather gauntlets engraved with the Yrus emblem. Her weapons return to their usual spot, although she loses her dagger to the dungeon guard Sokka as a bribe. Her now dark hair is tied in a long braid down her back.

Personality[]

Akkey is one to feel her emotions very intensely. She is fiesty, determined, and hard working, but the traumatic events of Hemlock, Frigga, and Fenrir made her more doubtful, self deprecating, and afraid of her own mind. Despite feeling broken, she survives and lives the best that she can. She is fiercely protective of her family and friends, and will do anything to ensure their safety, so much so that sometimes she is blinded to the consequences of her actions. She regrets the pain she causes unto others, but will always choose the road that is best for her loved ones and no one else.

Abilities[]

Akkey's abilities revolve largely on her fighting skills, hence her line of works varies on being a soldier, a guard, or anything of the same manner. Her constant exposure to battles desensitized her to pain, evolving her fighting style into something that can be reckless and chaotic.

Nix[]

In the beginning of the year 1045, Akkey discovers that she inherited her father's nix abilities. This means that she has the ability to control water and to create portals. Her position as an Agent of Helheim and her previous skillset greatly amplified her powers in a very short time.

Water Manipulation[]

The possibilities are endless when it comes to controlling water. At the peak of her power, Akkey can:

  • manipulate its form and tension, like water tendrils and large waves
  • freeze it into ice spikes, barriers, and weapons
  • heat it up into a mist or to boiling point (manageable only in her 20s)
  • stand on its surface or breathe underwater, and do so for others as well
  • feel the water in the atmosphere from a certain distance

The one thing Akkey was never able to do is create water from nothing. Dario taught her the theory behind this, but she never gets the hang of it.

Teleportation[]

Part of the nix ability is the capacity to teleport through water. Teleporting herself is second nature, like walking and breathing. Moving other beings is a little different; she can feel their form and weight passing through her portals, like she is literally carrying them from one place to the next. Hence, transporting large numbers of beings can be very exhausting. Every person has a different personal experience when teleporting. Dragons tend to be averse to using her portals.

  • Aidorin - to open a portal in the physical world, Akkey must be able to visualize the destination as accurately as possible in her mind, so that she can connect the two ends of the portal correctly. If she has no destination in mind, it will connect to a place at random, but this is very dangerous as it can open literally anywhere in the world, or off it. She needs some amount of water to activate on her side, but does not need any at the other end. The more water there is, the easier to control.
  • Other Realms - currently she can only teleport to Purgatory and Helheim, but in theory she would be able to open an entrance to more realms. In the beginning, Akkey had no control on when she activated a portal to these realms, falling in accidentally or being pulled in by Hel, but after time and practice she's able to visit them at will. Certain conditions must be met: a large body of water (usually a lake), great amounts of magic and energy, and an open invitation to visit. Akkey likes visiting Helheim, but refuses to return to Purgatory if she could help it.
  • Subconscious - this is a fairly new concept opened to her by Milae, with the existence of timelines. She still doesn't understand the exact science behind it, but the theory is to make a connection to a space and an alternate soul as opposed to a physical image, and a portal will open for the subconscious to slip through. This only happened once on purpose, and she was rudely kicked out by Frigga and left practically out of energy and magic. It is unknown if she will manage to do this again. By extension, she is also able to teleport into dreams and nightmares.

Dark Ice and Dreams[]

Due to the several mental traumas Akkey experienced, and the magical elements that came with it, some psychological shadows remained in her mind and manifests itself into her own nix and teleportation abilities. Her water manipulation increases in power many times over, but it becomes wild and unpredictable. It also penetrates her dreams and takes her to different subconscious plains, including Helheim and other timelines.

She has no control over this, and it only appears under extreme stress. Part of her character journey is finding ways to handle this issue while keeping the people around her safe from herself. She tried a few times to harness this power on purpose in hopes of gaining control, but it ended in disaster at all times.

Swordsmanship[]

Akkey is highly proficient in swordfighting, having been taught by King Haddock himself who was a master swordsman. It was her main choice of weapon until the discovery of her nix abilities in 1045. Since then, it has become her secondary weapon, but she still carries it by her hip and incorporates the skills with water manipulation. She uses a custom, left handed Carolingian sword, with the Wilderwest crest engraved in the pommel, three small emeralds in the hilt, and a deep purple sheath. She also carried a jewel encrusted dagger, until she lost it to the Castaway dungeon guard Sokka as a bribe.

Close combat[]

Because of her small size, Akkey relies on her speed and agility when it comes to close ranged fights. She doesn't have much raw power like bigger fighters do, so her attacks are extremely acrobatic and quick. It's inspired by a mix of Tai Chi and Shaolin Kung Fu.

History[]

Akkey was born on March 13, 1024 at the border of Central West and Wild West. She was a bright eyed, eager, fiesty child with loving parents and an older sister. They were an isolated family, with their only acquaintances being the Anderson family who lived half an hour away. When she was two years old, while playing with her sister, she unknowingly formed a ball of water and threw it towards the end of their garden. Maya, being five years old at the time, didn't realize the implications of it and told no one, casting it away as a random dream as she grew up.

On the day of her 12th birthday, Akkey insisted on visiting the Andersons by herself while the rest of her family prepared her surprise party, despite her mother's offer to accompany her. Upon her return, she found her home burned to the ground, and her entire family dead, murdered by her mother's ex-fiance. She was devastated, and ended up staying and working for the Anderson family inn for two years.

Towards the end of 1037, she heard of the new Wilderwest king, Gareth Ragnar Haddock the Second. She recognized the name from her father, who spoke of the new king as a comrade and friend of the old days. After a few months of consideration, she decided to leave her childhood behind and allied herself to King Haddock. She grew closer to him and his family, so much so that a year later they adopt her and she became the King's ward. She then trained to fight under his army and his tutelage, earning the title of Chief of the Stoic Hearts at the age of 18. She befriended many of the original rebels during this time, including Treepelt Halfpaw and Warren, even training them in battle for a while. But the peaceful time came to an end upon the capture and Grounded Dungeon imprisonment of her friend Treepelt, and King Haddock soon thereafter.

Role in the Rebellion[]

Pre Rebellion[]

After Haddock's imprisonment in the Grounded Dungeon, General Frosti and Chief Akkey received the intel from the King via bio luminescent nanodragons about an escape plan. They began preparing the half breed army to storm the dungeon, and on January 21, the Battle of the Grounded Dungeon began.

Akkey's mental state worsened the longer she stayed in Hel's Bunker, and in September 1045 she decided that it was time to leave permanently. Her sister wasn't happy about her decision and wanted to come along, but the war of Ragnarok raged on and it was too dangerous to leave the dungeon as a civilian, even with Hel's protection. She relented after Akkey promised to stay in contact through her portals.

She started exploring southward with her dragon Maru, keeping with her job as an Agent of Helheim and whatever else the Goddess Hel required her to do.

In March 1046, Akkey found herself in the Wilder East islands, in the port city of Cuine, where the people were also aligned to Hel. They were in the middle of a battle against some of Thor's army, so she supported their ranks for a couple weeks until they came out victorious. She fought a particularly large and thunderous champion called Koiroll. She was having a hard time taking him down, and just as Koiroll was about to land a severe attack, Jin Juro appeared and distracted him, giving her an opening to defeat him. She found out that he was also an Agent of Helheim returning to Aidorin after half a year of being away.

After the Battle of Cuine, Juro decided to tag along with Akkey, and they traveled together for three months until they arrived at Yrus, her mother's childhood hometown. They discovered that Chrom, her mother's ex-fiancee, was the King of the Wilder South Berserkers and invaded the small village. He challenged her to a duel for revenge, but he lost and died by her hand. His son, Gaius, now the new King, signed a peace treaty with Yrus. With the village free, well protected, and aligned to Hel, Akkey knew that it was the perfect place for Maya and Hunter to stay. They moved in via portal, and Maya became the Chief of Yrus by birthright.

The slow lifestyle of Yrus, especially amidst Ragnarok, was beneficial to Akkey. A year passed by, spending her time in between the village, the cove, and when Hel called for her, finding some sense of peace despite the looming darkness in her mind.

A few weeks later, Blunt arrived at her doorstep and for the next year, they further deepened their relationship, supporting each other as they sorted through their personal issues. Akkey learned of Blunt's full true story and helped him through it, even meeting and befriending his cousin, then Lydia Donz, when their friendship was in danger of falling through. They processed through her trauma from Hemlock and Frigga, as well as her regrets about her mother's death and her father's disappearance. He gave her a new birthday, and she now celebrates it on the same day as his. Akkey also started falling for Blunt, but didn't realize it, or perhaps refused to admit to realizing it, until 25 years later.

In October 1048, an earthquake shook the ground where Hel's Bunker was developing into a town while Akkey was visiting, and it set off an extreme episode. She created uncontrollable dark ice for the first time, even having a subconscious conversation with Orskaf in Helheim in her dream. She also accidentally gave Blunt a scar on his chest. This became one of her biggest regrets, so she worked with The Warden to take a piece of her soul and placed it in a bottle. When broken, it harnesses her power as an Agent of Helheim and opens a portal for the user.

Two months later, a shadow mage visited Yrus and she curiously tried her hand at shadow control, but it came up with no results. She decided that it was for the best, so she didn't make another attempt until November 1050.

After five and a half years, in May 1051 Akkey headed back West once more, this time towards Haligan Island where she knew Chief Grey Bergman and the Boomerang Squad resided. She had the goal of patching things up with them and rebuilding their relationship, especially after all she'd done to Greg during the war; she was fearful of the outcome, yet she pressed on, and they were able to mend their broken connection with each other.

A few months later, she accompanied Grey on a quest to find the Chief's uncle, who went missing during a trade route. They headed further West, out into the sea where they thought the traders' ships disappeared. It was then that they discovered, or were discovered, rather, by more Nixes, specifically Nixes of the Oceans. It turned out that the Nix race wasn't as rare as Akkey had thought, and were instead more reclusive and private that normal. Their first interactions were nothing short of disastrous, especially after learning that the Grey's uncle was taken due to ----, but after helping ------, they developed a begrudging alliance with the Ocean Nixes, and an amicable relationship with the Crown Prince Libulan and the First Princess Malayari.

Legacy[]

Relationships[]

Family[]

Pitch Black[]

Akkey was very close to her father during her younger days. They would often take fishing trips together, and spend much time together. She was devastated upon his supposed death on her birthday. When he returned and kidnapped her to Purgatory, she couldn't decide what to feel. She was extremely happy to see him alive, but she was angry, sad, and confused as to why he abandoned her in the past nine years. They tried to repair their relationship in the events of BOTGD, especially upon her discovery of being able to manipulate water as a nix, and becoming an Agent of Helheim as well, but it was a difficult journey. It continues to be so, as he still leaves for very long periods of time with barely any communication, and there is some lingering anger and sadness left within her.

Iona Mirogue-Black[]

Akkey takes after her mother in temperament and personality, meaning that they clashed quite often. Still, they were close, and would get into some trouble together like accidentally destroying her father's pocket watch. She regrets arguing with her mother on her birthday as these were the last words they exchanged before her death. Akkey was devastated and blamed herself for the incident, and while she eventually learns to accept that it wasn't her fault, a deep sadness remains. Admittedly, killing Chrom the Unforgiving during their duel felt nice.

Maya Black-Lindholm[]

Out of her whole family, Akkey is closest with her sister Maya, and she was overcome with joy upon finding her alive. She is the calm and perceptive optimist to Akkey's chaotic emotions and recklessness. Akkey often confides in her sister, and finds a lot of emotional and mental support from her. She is extremely protective of her sister; part of the agreement with Hel as an Agent of Helheim was a guarantee of Maya's complete safety during Ragnarok. Even after the war and the Lindholms settled nicely in Yrus, Akkey remains nearby to catch up on lost time and ensure that all is well. She refuses to lose her sister again.

Hunter Lindholm[]

Akkey considers Hunter like a brother, and has a friendly and good-natured relationship with him. Just like with Maya, he is there for Akkey through her hard times, his healing magic helpful for her episodes. There are times where she becomes too reliant on his magic and becomes reckless on the field, much to Hunter's distress, but she knows she can always count on him.

Trivia[]

  • She is shipped with many people, Blakkey being the most developed. Others include Akkendal, AkkeyVox, AkkeyCloth, AkkeyPillowCloth, Grakkey (platonic), Nakkey (platonic), AkkeyDeo, AkkeyJin, etc.
  • Her desensitization to pain and the violent energy of her fighting style finds its way into other aspects of her life, like in some relationships and acts of intimacy.
  • Her temperament and bloodline does not work well in controlled environments like learning institutions and government systems.
  • Her rabbit gene was so diluted that it presents itself only with rabbit ears (which she was not that attached to, hence adapted to hearing without them decently enough), claw-like nails, some eating habits, and physical agility.
  • She may not look it, but she takes good care and attention to her appearance, from her hair, to her clothes, down to her nails. She is one of the few who appreciates Lydia/Dixie Donz' fashion choices.
