Part 1[]

It’s not over.

She’s learned from her patrols and spying that Stonegit is now in prison… this lockdown of his will no longer be enforced.  So then, why still the militarization?  Why are guards watching them?  Who do they truly report to? Kiri heads to one of the landing bays of the fortress, Dagger just behind.  She makes sure that she is in full view of the nearest watchtower, then mounts the black dragon and pats her on the side.  “Let’s run some errands,” she smiles, rubbing a silver spike endearingly.

The nadder warbles and they take off.

They fly for some time, but Kiri keeps a close watch on the fortress.  She is unsurprised to see notice someone following her.  Someone attempting to remain discrete.

Then, that is it.

They land in a nearby village, where Kiri buys some supplies.  Some food, a runestone for luck, an interesting brand of local tea…

An odd idea enters her head.

"Yes, I’d also like… let’s see, that’s a set of knitting needles, right?" she grins, pointing.  "I’d like those, size 8, both regular and circular sets.  Mmm, how about size 6 double ended as well?  Also, is that kettle-dyed blue and red wool?  Wow, it’s beautiful!  I’ll take four skeins please!" she laughs, bringing her hands together in girlish glee.

She walks out of the shop feeling oddly proud of herself.  She has never knitted before in her life.  She wonders what the person following her thinks of this new hobby.

Well, now is the time to start learning.

Part 2[]

"Please get down from there miss!"

Kiri sticks her tongue out and continues knitting. "… you really shouldn’t be up there!"

"Well whatcha gonna do about it?" she teases back, grinning.

The guard in the watchtower crosses his arms.  Kiri can see that he’s somewhat annoyed.  It’s not every day that someone decides to spend their afternoon sitting on the point of the watchtower roof covering and knit their time away.

She glances down.  Her practice has resulted in several lines of horrible knots and holes, but she’s getting better.  More specifically, she’s figured out both the purl and knit stitches, as well as slip knots and a couple basic lace stitches.

Yes.  Yes I think this will do quite well.  Oh, maybe I can make socks for everyone!

She hums the herring song to herself and keeps knitting, ignoring the irritated murmur of the guards below.
